Townes Van Zandt is a songwriting legend among circles who treasure poetic lyrics and poignant turns of phrase, and yet he remains mostly obscure among today’s mainstream listeners. His songs are as varied as they are brilliant, and as a writer, Townes set a bar for an integrity of songwriting that runs deep through traditional country and Americana today. His songs have been treasured by die-hard fans and covered by Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Doc Watson, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, among other notable songwriting giants. Lyrically, his songs have a way of tapping into a listener’s deepest recesses, and connecting to the bloodstream, to memory, to love, to loss, and the grit of survival. After repeated listens, his songs somehow open up multitudes of perception, and reveal a true poetic genius behind the words.

This gathering of fine central Pennsylvania songwriters and musicians will celebrate the beauty and poetry of Townes Van Zandt’s songs. It will be a night of raw and honest performances in an intimate space perfect for immersing the listener in the words and melodies of a songwriting genius. If you are Townes fan, this night will definitely be a reward of some of his best work and deep cuts. If you’ve never listened to Townes, this night could possibly be a great introduction to a songwriter that stands among the best to ever put pen to paper. You just might find your favorite new tune. In Zero Hour, three players selected from the audience answer 'higher or lower' questions to win a big prize package featuring the best Downtown York has to offer — but if they can't survive the fickle wheel, someone in the audience will take the prize home instead!

Hosted by The Hangar, this is no boring business meeting. Yes, there will be slides. Yes, there will be speakers. And yes, the topics will start sensible and get wonderfully absurd.

Join us for the First Friday opening reception of Mel Rodgers’s solo show: Index Card Epiphanies. Happening August 7 from 5 PM - 8 PM with the show being open to the public for the months of August and September. This is an exhibition of notes in the field from the amazing Melanie Rodgers. An independent graphic designer and illustrator with 24 years of experience teaching graphic design, illustration and graphic design history at the college level. She holds an M.A. in Digital Arts and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from The Maryland Institute College of Art, and is also a graduate in Fine Art from the now legendary York Academy of Arts. You won’t want to miss this show!
